In Ebersbach near Stuttgart, people were trapped in their houses, and several residents were reported missing, Sky News writes.

Also, a firefighter died during the rescue operation in Faffenhofen an der Ilm in Upper Bavaria.

Despite some reduction in rainfall intensity, ten municipalities in Bavaria declared a state of disaster on Saturday evening, as the Danube and several of its tributaries rose dangerously high, and authorities called for evacuation in flooded areas in the Bavarian district of Augsburg.

In other places during the weekend, residents were asked to leave their apartments and houses. The municipalities along the river Schmutter, a tributary of the Danube, were the most affected. A reception center has been set up in the premises of the Augsburg Fair.

Due to heavy flooding in Babenhausen in Unterallgäu, residents were evacuated by helicopter. The Bavarian Red Cross rescued two people from the roof of their house. They were in a life-threatening situation, said the spokesman of the rescue teams.

Other residents were evacuated by boat.

On Saturday, emergency services rescued more than 100 people, including dozens of children. Rescuers also had to pull people out of their cars because they couldn't open the doors themselves due to the amount of water.

Such situations are particularly dangerous due to water currents and the rising water level in the car, and can quickly become life-threatening, added the spokesperson of the Red Cross.

Many residents were surprised by the extent of the flooding. Four young men, whom DW spoke to in Kühlenthal, say that they can no longer reach the house, which until recently they protected with sandbags. The village has now been evacuated.

"It is the house of our parents, who are on vacation in Austria. On Saturday, we tried to save what we could, but the water was coming from all sides. At least we managed to take two cars to higher ground," they said yesterday.

In the threatened areas, car and rail traffic was interrupted and hampered. Two carriages of an ICE high-speed train with 185 passengers derailed Saturday night in Schwäbisch Gmünd in Baden-Württemberg due to a landslide.

Also, there are still train cancellations on the routes from Munich via Nuremberg to Berlin, from Karlsruhe via Stuttgart to Munich, from Munich to Zürich as well as from Augsburg to Oberstdorf.

In Diedorf, a few kilometers west of Augsburg, the underground parking lot was completely flooded, as were the basements of the surrounding houses. The embankment and the dam also broke there.

A state of disaster was declared in Ebersbach on Sunday evening, writes Welt.

"Please stay at home and do not come to the threatened areas. There is danger to life, as you can see. Please do not walk through the water because you may come across manholes without covers. Do not enter your basements, stay on the upper floors", it is stated on the Facebook page of that city.
