Historic decision: They were recognized
Norwegian government officials today held a press conference where they addressed the situation in the Middle East and announced, among other things, the historic decision to recognize Palestine as a state.
This decision was announced at a press conference by Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide and Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
As the Prime Minister of Norway emphasized, the recognition will enter into force on May 28.
"There can be no peace without the establishment of a Palestinian state," the prime minister said during a press conference.
"In the midst of war, with tens of thousands dead and wounded, we must keep alive the only thing that can provide a safe home for both Israelis and Palestinians. Two states that can live in peace with each other," Støre said.
He also said that the Palestinians have a fundamental right to their own state.
"There can be no two-state solution without a Palestinian state. In other words, a Palestinian state is needed for peace in the Middle East," the Prime Minister said.
