South Korean Army: Missile fired
North Korea fired at least one "unidentified ballistic missile", the South Korean military announced today.
North Korea fired an unidentified ballistic missile in the direction of the East Sea, also called the Sea of Japan, the Joint General Staff of the South Korean Army announced.
According to Japanese public broadcaster NHK, citing state sources, the missile appears to have been of short range.
The missile launch came hours after Kim Yo Jong, the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, denied that North Korea was supplying any weapons to Russia.
Kim Yo Jong said that Pyongyang "has no intention of exporting its military technical capabilities to any country," according to a statement published today by North Korea's official KCNA news agency.
South Korea and the US have repeatedly accused Pyongyang of supplying weapons to Moscow, although both countries are under international sanctions, Russia for its invasion of Ukraine and North Korea for its nuclear program.
In April, Pyongyang thanked Moscow for using its veto power in the UN Security Council to block the formation of a new committee of experts to oversee the implementation of international sanctions imposed on North Korea.
