Putin took office as president: "The fate of Russia is determined only by us"; Presidential regiment parade

Putin walked into the Kremlin's Georgievska (St George) Hall, and was greeted by applause from the audience. By taking the oath, Putin took office as the President of the Russian Federation, after which the country's national anthem was sung.

The text of the presidential oath is determined by the Constitution of the Russian Federation (Article 82) and reads:

"I swear that, when exercising the powers of the President of the Russian Federation, I will respect and protect the rights and freedoms of man and citizen, respect and defend the Constitution of the Russian Federation, protect the sovereignty and independence, security and integrity of the state and faithfully serve the people."

Putin addressed the citizens upon assuming the presidency and said that the people themselves will decide on the future of the country.

He thanked for the trust placed in him. He thanked citizens in all regions, as well as those in historical territories who defended their right to be part of Russia and all those who fight for Russia, for the trust and support they showed him.

"I am addressing every citizen of Russia. I just took the oath, and that is the essence of the presidential office - to serve the people and protect Russia, it is an honor, an obligation and a sacred duty," he said and told the citizens that they will decide the fate of the country themselves.

As he pointed out, he is convinced that the country will survive the difficult period in a dignified manner and become even stronger.

"I assure you that in the future, the interests and security of the people of Russia will be a priority for me," Putin said.

Putin is participating in a solemn ceremony in front of the country's most prominent figures, where he will take the oath, officially becoming the current leader of Russia for another term.

The ceremony is attended by representatives of the Federal Assembly (Russian Parliament), judges of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation, members of the government and the Central Election Commission, as well as prominent scientists, artists, renowned athletes, and foreign guests.

On the same day, the Russian government resigns, which will mark the beginning of the legal process of forming a new government.
