To stop Putin: the French are sending the army to the front?

French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview with Economist that he does not rule out the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine if Russia "breaks through the front lines" and if Kyiv asks Paris to do so, the BFMTV portal reports.

"If the Russians broke through the front lines and there was a Ukrainian demand - which is not the case today - it would be legitimate to ask that question," Macron said.

Already in February, Macron raised the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukrainian soil, BFM reminds.

"As I said, I don't rule anything out because there is someone on the other side who doesn't rule anything out. Without a doubt, we were too suspicious when we defined the limits of our action," said the French President.

Macron said that "a priori rejection" of the possibility of sending troops would mean that "the lessons of the last two years have not been learned", because in the summer of 2022 they were against sending tanks, long-range missiles and airplanes, and now they are delivering all these to Ukraine.

"I have a clear strategic task: Russia must not win in Ukraine. If Russia wins in Ukraine, there will be no security in Europe," he added.

"Who can claim that Russia will stop there? What security is there for other neighboring countries, Moldova, Romania, Poland, Lithuania and so many others? And then, what credibility is there for the Europeans who would spend billions, saying that it is the survival of the continent and would not provide the means to stop Russia? So yes, we should not rule anything out," Macron pointed out.
