Representatives of the opposition, civil society activists and citizens participated in the "March for Europe", organized by the non-governmental sector and the youth movement.

The column stretched along the main street, Rustaveli Avenue. People tried to get to the stage that was set up ahead of the gathering of supporters of the ruling party Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia, and in order to prevent them from doing so, the police threw tear gas.

On April 17, the Parliament of Georgia adopted the draft law on foreign agents in the first reading, which is opposed by Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, the opposition and Western diplomats who see it as an obstacle to the country's integration into the EU.

The opposition and citizens have been holding rallies against the law in Tbilisi since Monday, and there have been several clashes with the police at the protests.

The ruling party Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia announced at the beginning of April that it has decided to resubmit the bill on the transparency of foreign influence to the parliament.

It happened a year after a similar initiative sparked mass protests, forcing the authorities to abandon the law.

The text of the bill remained the same as last year's, except for the term "agent of foreign influence". Instead, the term "an organization that promotes the interests of a foreign power" is used.
