Creepy: Tornado carried everything on its way, there are dead people VIDEO
At least five people died and 33 were injured in a strong tornado that hit the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou today, the Chinese public service CGTN reported.
The Seismological Institute said the tornado was at level 3, which is two levels below the highest, and an investigation into the property damage is ongoing, state news agency Xinhua reported.
A weather station in Liangtian Village, Baijin County, about three kilometers from where the tornado originated, recorded a maximum wind gust of 20.6 meters per second this afternoon.
Earlier in the day, city officials issued warnings for possible thunderstorms, rain, hail and tornadoes in many counties.
This comes as Guangdong province grapples with record flooding caused by heavy rains that have claimed at least four lives and displaced tens of thousands of people across several cities, the China Morning Post website reported.
At least 10 people are missing. Guangzhou authorities announced today that the city's total rainfall for the month has already reached 455.8 millimeters, the highest for April since 1951.
