"They crossed the red line"
Iran has crossed a red line in its decades-long war with Israel, which it has been waging in the shadows, and the situation is now very fragile, Sky News Middle East correspondent Alistair Bunkall said in an analysis.
The revenge attack on Israel was "much bigger than anyone thought it would be", he said, adding that the images of explosions in the sky in the early hours of Sunday morning "cannot be underestimated given that drones and rockets launched from the territory of Iran".
Bunkall also says there is no doubt that Israel was behind the attack on the Iranian consulate building in Damascus earlier this month.
"Israeli President Isaac Herzog confirmed this to me to a great extent in yesterday's interview. This is so far the closest to an admission of responsibility by a high-ranking Israeli official," he concluded.
