During the anti-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus, two militants who were planning diversions and terrorist attacks were liquidated, the National Anti-Terrorist Committee announced.

"While members of the security forces were conducting an operational search in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, information was received about the location of armed persons who participated in terrorist activities," the statement said, adding that during the night special forces of the Federal Security Service of Russia blocked them on the territory of Nalchik district.
In order to ensure the safety of citizens in the area where the militants were found, the CTO legal regime was introduced.
"In response to the offer to lay down their arms and surrender to the authorities, the militants opened fire on the policemen. Coordination of the activities of the law enforcement forces is provided by the operational headquarters of the NAC," it added.

It is specified that due to the implementation of the anti-terrorist operation, until further notice, "a number of special measures and temporary restrictions will be in force" in the said territory.
It is also reported that in response to the demand to lay down their arms and surrender to the authorities, the militants opened fire on the police.
As specified, the anti-terrorist operation in Nalchik, the capital of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, ended at the site of combat operations. There are no wounded among members of the security forces and civilians.
