"We, heads of state, demand immediate, unconditional implementation of Resolution 2728 of UN Security Council
French President Emmanuel Macron, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Jordanian King Abdullah II called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and a two-state solution.
"Faced with an unbearable number of victims, we, the heads of state of Egypt, France and Jordan, demand the immediate and unconditional implementation of Resolution 2728 of the United Nations Security Council," stated the joint statement, Politico reports.
It is added that a "two-state solution", that is, an agreement on a ceasefire that includes the existence of two independent states, is the only "reliable option for guaranteeing peace and security".
The three officials also warned of dangerous consequences should Israel carry out the planned offensive in Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians who have fled Israeli bombardment are currently located.
The call for a ceasefire by the three leaders was sent ahead of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Cairo.
