Will they withdraw the army?
The number of US military personnel in Syria is likely to be cut in half as part of the consolidation of those military forces that is planned for the next few weeks and months, Reuters reported.
That agency reported, referring to two unnamed US officials, that the consolidation includes reducing the number of US soldiers to around 1,000, while the other confirmed the plan to reduce the number of troops, but also expressed skepticism regarding the halving, especially in the current negotiations between the US and Iran.
The United States has recently sent military aircraft, including B-2 bombers, warships and air defense systems to Syria.
About 2,000 American soldiers are stationed in numerous bases in northeastern Syria, and as Reuters reports, they are cooperating with local forces to prevent the resurgence of the Islamic State.
The Islamist government in Syria, which took power last year after former President Bashar al-Assad left the country, is trying to establish ties with countries in the region.
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, backed by the US, signed an agreement with Damascus last month to merge Kurdish-led governing bodies and security forces with the central government.
