Turkey on the verge of collapse: Hundreds of thousands of people in the streets; This wasn't seen for decades
Demonstrators opposing the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu protested for the fourth night in a row in that city, as well as in İzmir and the Turkish capital, Ankara.

Last night, some participants of the protest attacked policemen, and in Ankara, a policeman was injured in an attack by masked persons. The police fired rubber bullets at the protesters, TRT Haber reported.
The organizer of the protest is Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP). Yesterday, İmamoğlu called on the citizens of Turkey from detention to hold mass demonstrations across the country because he is forced to wait in prison for the start of his trial. The Turkish Interior Ministry announced yesterday that İmamoğlu was removed from his post after he was arrested on charges of corruption and terrorism.

Istanbul's city assembly, where the CHP has a majority, is expected to elect an acting mayor in the coming days after İmamoğlu's removal, Reuters reported.
İmamoğlu is a key opposition figure and a potential opponent in the presidential elections of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He was detained on Wednesday on charges of corruption and aiding a terrorist group, but denied the charges, calling them "unthinkable slanders".
The Turkish government has denied any influence over İmamoğlu's arrest, saying the judiciary is independent. İmamoğlu, 54, who according to some opinion polls had more public support than Erdogan, was to be named as the CHP's official candidate in the next presidential election.
Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators filled the streets of Istanbul for the fifth night to protest against the arrest of the main rival of the Turkish president.
Large demonstrations continued despite a ban on gatherings in Istanbul that was imposed this week, but many protesters covered their faces with masks. Police used tear gas and fired rubber bullets into a crowd that had gathered outside Istanbul's city hall.
Foreign media report that these are the biggest protests Turkey has seen in more than a decade. In the clashes, the police used water cannons and tear gas on the protesters, some of whom threw rocks and fireworks at the police.
Turkey's interior minister said 323 people were detained Saturday night for rioting at the protests.
