Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia: We withdraw
Poland and the Baltic countries of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are withdrawing from the Convention banning the use of landmines.

This was stated in a joint statement published today, and all four countries, which share a border with Russia, state that this step means the return of the ability to stockpile mines again.
By withdrawing from the treaty ratified in 1997, which was supported by more than 160 countries, these countries will once again be able to stockpile landmines, Reuters reported.
"With this decision, we are sending a clear message: our countries are ready and able to use all necessary measures to protect our security interests," the defense ministers of those countries said in a joint statement.
