The ten-time champion in Melbourne won the match against Jaime Faria in four sets (4:1). After more than three hours of play, the scores were 6:1, 6:7 (4), 6:3, 6:2.

It was Djokovic's 430th match at the Grand Slams, surpassing Roger Federer and becoming the only player on the list of records by that parameter.

On the other hand, he had a younger tennis player, 125th in the world, who looked up to him, but he had all the more motivation to outplay the tennis player he idolized.

Novak, like in the first round, again had a task in front of him that he did not like. An unknown player from the other side of the net. This time he entered the match much better, winning the first set easily, conceding only one game to the Portuguese, but that slow start of his opponent only fooled him.

Faria broke out in the second set, his serve began to work at full steam and Novak had no answer to that. He even reached the break, a complete turnaround, but Djokovic somehow managed to win the tie-break.

Although according to the rule he should have an advantage in that segment of the game, Faria won relatively easily in the race to seven points and reached the tie in sets.

That was actually his end. Worn out, he could no longer serve the way he did in the second set, and Djokovic knew how to take advantage of that.

If he held his own in the third, everyone could hardly wait for the fourth set to end, as it was clear that anyone could triumph.

By the way, the match was stopped due to rain at the beginning of the third set, and then the roof was closed in Rod Laver Arena. Novak, like Faria, was tormented by the spotlights, which were subsequently turned off at the insistence of the players.

In the third round, Novak will play against Tomas Machac, who eliminated Reilly Opelka.

The two tennis players spent three and a half hours on the "1573 Arena" court, after which Machac won with the score 6:3, 6:7 (1), 7:6 (5), 6:7 (4), 4:6.
