Botic after the match of his life: I believed from the first point

The Dutchman made the biggest surprise of the tournament by winning in straight sets, 6:1, 7:5, 6:4.

Everything about his game worked flawlessly, especially his play at the net, while the Spaniard seemed unrecognizable.

"Actually, I'm a bit speechless. This was an amazing match. I played in this stadium for the first time in my life, the crowd was phenomenal, thank you for that. An amazing night," Botic said while talking to Mary Jo Fernandez in an on-court interview.

He was asked where he found faith after such a difficult season.

"I got a lot of confidence from the last match. I played very well, from the first point tonight I believed I could make a change. You see how sometimes everything turns out as it should," he laughed.

He also tried to explain what his strategy was against Alcaraz.

"I defended well, I saw the stats of the match. I won an incredible amount of points at the net. My coach wants me to be more aggressive. I was pretty good today. Sure, there was some nervousness, but if you want to beat one of these guys, you have to be incredibly calm and on the ground all the time, otherwise they take advantage of that very easily," says Botic.

His next rival is the British Jack Draper.

"It's okay, I've already played against him. He's a very good tennis player, he's had a great season, good serve and backhand. It will be a tough match as usual, but I'll be ready for that," said Van den Zandschulp.
