The world No. 1 tested positive twice for the steroid clostebol in March, but the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) found him not to be at fault and responsible.

During both tests, the mentioned metabolite was found in small quantities, but because of that, he was immediately temporarily suspended both times, with the right to appeal.

Since the appeal was upheld both times, he was able to continue competing in tournaments unhindered.

Many tennis players believe that double standards were applied, that Sinner was treated differently compared to other players in a similar situation.

"Obviously, because of my position, I've been able to take qualified people. If it had happened to some other players, it would have been different. But again, I was treated like everyone else. The reason why I kept playing is because we knew exactly how it entered my system and where the clostebol came from. It was in the spray," Sinner told ESPN.

"All things considered, I haven't had a different treatment. The process is quite long, it was even more stressful because even though you saw this coming, you still don't know what the result will be, you still don't know how it will end. It was not an easy period for me. That's why I'm happy," added World No. 1.

Sinner's case raised a big storm right before the start of the US Open.

"It's been a very tough time, it's been a doubtful time, I'm happy it's finally over because I took a lot of weight off my shoulders. I wish no player had to go through this, I hope people understand why they let me kept playing and why I got the no fault. I think I explained everything how it was and how it should be. I think they conducted the investigation in the same way for everyone. I hope everyone can understand it and move on", Sinner concluded.

The US Open starts this Monday.
