The Spaniard reached his fourth Grand Slam title after triumphing in straight sets 6:2, 6:2, 7:6 (4).
Novak Djokovic was painfully defeated in the Wimbledon final by Carlos Alcaraz.
The Spaniard defeated him in straight sets to inflict one of the heaviest defeats of his career and beat him in the Wimbledon final for the second time in a row.
The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, presented Djokovic and Alcaraz with trophies for their success at Wimbledon, and the Serbian tennis player received thunderous applause and a standing ovation when receiving the consolation prize.
"It was not the result I wanted. The level of tennis I played was not good and Carlos really played very well and is a complete player, he showed everything. I tried everything, prevented three match points and it was not meant to be. A fully deserved victory and big congratulations to his team, his family, you're doing a great job... It seems like a one man show, but it's clearly the work of the team and they all deserve it. He's only 21 years old and he just needs to keep it up", Novak said.
He had knee surgery a month ago, and now he was playing in the Wimbledon final. He has played the final here every year except 2018...
"I'm proud, I have to be. Obviously I'm a bit disappointed at the moment because we're talking ten minutes after the match, but when I go back to what happened in the last 4.5 weeks and what I've been through, I have to be satisfied because it's always been my boyhood dream to play on center court at Wimbledon and I try to remind myself how unreal it feels to be here even though I've played so many matches at Wimbledon and every time I step on the court it feels like the first time. I'm a kid living the dream again".
You've been generous in your praise for Carlos' team, and I'm sure you want to praise yours as well.
"I want to tell my wife 'I love you' and 'thank you for being by my side'. I tell my beautiful children that I am grateful that they bring a smile to my face every day. I always feel like crying when I see them at this ceremony, it is beautiful to have them and I am grateful to be the father of such angels because they love tennis more and more. I don't know if I have the nerve to continue coaching my son, but if you want to pursue tennis, Stefan, I'm here for you. Thanks to my team, coaches and physio and managers and thank you for being with me through good times and bad times and you only know what we have been through. I love you all and thank you for being in my corner," says Djokovic.
