After 123 minutes of play, the seven-time champion of the tournament defeated the 15th player in the world, Dane Holger Rune, 6:3, 6:4, 6:2 and thus confirmed that he is in excellent shape.

Maybe the talented Rune seemed like someone who could mess up Novak before the match, but on the field, it's a completely different story. Along with the difference in class when it comes to the game on grass, which the young Dane still has to learn about.

Novak was able to do it comfortably this evening as he played steadily, confidently, with a lot of feeling and, above all, experience.

The start of the match hinted at what awaits Rune, who entered the match somewhat tight, in a cramp, which only made Novak's job easier at the start.

Novak got the first 12 points in the match, reached the big 3:0 without a drop of sweat and could not miss that advantage.

He had a chance to break even in the sixth game, but he didn't use it.

However, routinely after 29 minutes of play, he won that opening set with 6:3.

Rune seemed to wake up early in the second set, as he began serving better. He held serve in the first few games, and Novak started to have a slight stomach ache, so after 3:2 he had to go to the toilet for a while with the referee's permission.

There were no problems, so he continued where he left off and played patiently in the seventh game to use the second break point for 4:3.

He won the next game to confirm the break and 5:3, and then he failed to use even six set balls on the opponent's serve.

However, in the following game, everything was as it should be and Djokovic used the seventh set point in total for 6:4 and thus gained a 2-0 lead in the sets.

That's how he continued in the third set, without giving in to his younger opponent.

He immediately made a break, took a 2:0 lead, and it was already clear that Rune would need a miracle to stop the car that had long gone downhill.

The Dane had 30:30 in the fourth game, but Novak stopped all that and took a 3:1 lead. In the sixth game, Rune put Novak to the trouble as he slipped twice, losing points, but he managed to save the break point and win that very important game for 4:2.

And with an aggressive game, he reached a new break for 5:2, and then finished the match like a champion.

On Wednesday, Novak will play in the quarter-finals against Australian Alex de Minaur, who defeated Arthur Fils in four sets, 6:2, 6:4, 4:6, 6:3.
