Some words were also heard at one of the training sessions in German, which are not for the public, but just enough to show that he knows that language as well.

After the victory over Vito Kopriva at the start of Wimbledon (6:1, 6:2, 6:2), Djokovic explained where his commitment to learning the language comes from.

"I have always loved languages from a young age and tennis is a sport that requires constant travel and that you are dedicated to it. Even in junior years, there are many tournaments in different parts of the world. We from Serbia did not have many opportunities to play tournaments that are at the desired level in those junior categories in our region, so we had to travel all over Europe, America, the Middle East... Then you are forced to learn at least English, which I had at school. I also had a base there lived for a certain period between the ages of 12 and 16 with Niki Pilić in Germany, and then I spoke German there," said Djokovic and added:

"English is the most represented and most used language universally and Italian as well through work and cooperation with people who are from Italy, who were my tennis coaches, conditioning coaches, managers. At one point I was surrounded by Italians and I always liked that language".

"I have a tendency to learn languages and somehow I think that the more languages you know, the more you are worth and the more respect you show, and you get from people who come from that country from that region where that language is spoken," Djokovic continues:

"Somehow, when a person makes that effort and tries to learn at least a few phrases in that language when visiting that country. I think it's a sign of respect and appreciation for the culture and traditions of the country you're visiting. I grew up with that approach and was brought up and I always had the desire and the will to learn languages."

Modern times and technologies facilitate the learning process.

"It came naturally because in the dressing room you are surrounded by many languages and the question is whether you want someone to talk to you in that language or help you. But you learn quickly because today we have artificial intelligence, internet programs and there are many online courses to do, and you just need to decide for it and make time if you want to, and find an excuse if you don't want to," explains Novak.

The next language he wants to learn is Russian.

"I would like to learn the (Russian) language and I hope that it will come to me a little faster considering the Slavic roots between our languages. That is my great desire. For Chinese, for those languages of the Far East, I would also like that, but maybe it's unrealistic now because these are languages that require a little more time and you have to dedicate yourself a little more to it," concluded Novak.
