"Associated Press" asked WADA why Jannik Sinner was banned for only three months, while Spanish pair skater Laura Barquero was banned for six years.

In both cases, the forbidden clostebol was found in the body.

"The main difference in these two cases is that Miss Barquero's explanation of how the substance got into her body was not convincing in light of the evidence and those circumstances, as far as WADA is concerned, remain unknown. In Sinner's case, the evidence supports what he said in his statement," WADA said.

Laura Barquero tested positive at the 2022 Winter Olympics and then again in January 2023.

She is said to have accepted the agreement, which was also signed by WADA and the ISU (International Skating Organization).

"If Miss Barquero did not agree with the proposed punishment, she would not have signed the agreement to end the case. She had the option of appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport," adds WADA.
