Jurić on the disappearance of Danka: Contradictory statements raise doubts; I see no end to this agony
Director of the Center for Missing and Abused Children Igor Jurić said today that in the case of the disappearance of the two-year-old girl Danka Ilić in Banjsko Polje near Bor, all the circumstances that led to this disappearance are suspicious.
As he said, the contradictory statements of people close to the girl raise doubts, because at first it was hard to believe that a two-year-old girl could go so far that even the police, who came very quickly to the scene, could not found her.
"This is a very specific case, first of all, because of the child's age, and considering that the child is completely powerless to do something on her own, then everything comes down to the environment and the people around the child. It seems to me that there is no person who is nearby who doesn't arouse suspicion. I'm not pointing the finger at anyone, but I'm objectively looking at the facts that are current at the moment and that indicate that suspicion must exist and that it exists because of all those facts," he told Tanjug.
Jurić says that the visit of the Minister of the Interior, Bratislav Gašić, to the place where the girl disappeared, as well as the motivation of people and members of the Ministry of Interior on the ground, is an indicator of how seriously the case is being worked on and how much energy and strength has been invested in solving this case.
"Yesterday, I was hoping, looking at what is happening, that it would be resolved through operation and that we would have an epilogue to the whole story, but this is definitely an extremely difficult and complex case. Unfortunately, now I do not see and do not foresee the end of all this agony", he stated.
According to him, time is of the essence in any disappearance and that as time passes, the possibility of the child returning alive decreases, which is why, he adds, it is necessary for people to prepare for the worst news.
Jurić says that he personally was optimistic after the first day of the search when the child was not found on the field where she was thought to have been lost, because it was hard to believe that a two-year-old child could survive the cold and weather conditions that were then on the field where she disappeared.
"Now, given the passage of time, the only hope I see is that someone may come forward with a request for redemption, that it may be some possibility that we can see this little girl alive, and some possible miracle. I believe in miracles, I have hopes, but the fear is growing for me and I'm sure for a large number of citizens," he said.
