This winter has already shown that it will be colder than the past few, and that trend should continue until its end, said Marko Čubrilo.

"January and February should be significantly colder than the past few with more snow and the possibility of occasional snow cover formation in the lowlands, while there is a high probability of maintaining a high snow cover in the mountains that would exceed 50 centimeters in some places, especially over 1,000 meters above sea level," he stated.

For now, as he says, it says that the very cold, perhaps the coldest part of the winter, would be somewhere from around January 6, 2025 until about January 27, 2025, when the probability of occurrence of moderate and severe frosts in Serbia is highest:

"During those weeks, the lows in the lowlands could be around -15 degrees Celsius in some places, while in the mountain valleys and plateaus it could drop to around -20 degrees Celsius. That period (06/01 to 27/01) would also be marked by more frequent occurrences. There is a certain probability that after a slightly warmer period that would mark the very end of January and the beginning of February, sometime after February 5, a cold wave with minuses and snow, but that period is still very far from the prognostic side."

Summer forecast

As for the forecasts for the summer, Čubrilo says that at this moment there are no reliable hints, but an extremely hot and dry summer like the one in 2024 is not expected for now.

"The trend would be towards an average wet and slightly warmer summer than average, certainly before May it is not possible to give any more precise estimates about the summer of 2025. The occurrence of stronger heat waves that will be occasionally interrupted by storms are a normal phenomenon for our type of summer and it is almost certain that there will be such occurrences," concluded Čubrilo.

If the numbers are to be believed, during the past year, the citizens had the most confidence in the forecasts of the meteorologist Marko Čubrilo, who zealously informed the citizens on his Facebook profile about the weather conditions in Serbia, but also in the region. However, although he has a large number of followers on the networks, few people know that Čubrilo has been a regular professor of geography for 23 years in Novi Sad, at the "Jovan Jovanović-Zmaj" high school.

As he says, he has been fascinated by meteorology since he was a "little boy", and he has been seriously engaged in forecasting since he was around 25 years old. He has his own Facebook page where he regularly publishes weather forecasts for Serbia, but also for a wider part of the region (Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina). He is one of the few administrators of prognostic pages where he also regularly posts his forecasts with the caveat that these are not the official views of state institutions for forecasting and that they must certainly be followed.
