The prosecution will file an appeal against the verdict: K.K.'s parents received the maximum sentence?
The Chief Public Prosecutor of Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, Nenad Stefanović, is satisfied with the verdict handed down today to the parents of the boy who killed nine students and a guard at the elementary school "Vladislav Ribnikar".
On that occasion, the child injured five other children and a history teacher, although, as he said, this verdict cannot compensate for the tragic consequences of this crime.
"We have proven the guilt of the parents and that their gross neglect of the child and improper handling of weapons is the cause of this unprecedented tragedy. I am particularly pleased that the court sentenced Vladimir and Miljana Kecmanović to the maximum sentence for the criminal offense of Neglecting and abusing a minor," emphasized Stefanović.
However, he believes that only the maximum sentences for the other criminal acts for which they are accused are adequate for the defendants, bearing in mind the severity of the consequences of his actions.

Therefore, regarding the acquittal part of the verdict in relation to Miljana Kecmanović, as well as in connection with the amount of the sentences imposed on Vladimir Kecmanović and Nemanja Marinković, he announced that the VJT in Belgrade will file an appeal with the Court of Appeal in Belgrade after receiving the written despatch of the verdict.
He emphasized that this case, in addition to all its specificities, is also an indicator of the danger of child neglect, especially in today's time when the youngest are exposed to negative influences available on the Internet.
"The 'Ribnikar' case is a reminder to the whole society that parents must pay more attention to their children, educate and guide them, but also talk to the children about their problems, so that this kind of tragedy never happens again," concluded the Chief Public prosecutor of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade.
