"D" Day: The court pronounces the verdict against Uroš Blažić
Today, the Higher Court in Smederevo will pronounce the first-instance verdict against Uroš Blažić, accused of killing nine and wounding 12 people on May 4 last year in the villages of Malo Orašje and Dubona.
In this proceeding, his father Radiša Blažić is also on trial on suspicion of having acquired the weapon with which his son committed the crime, which was found in the family's home.
The Chief Prosecutor of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Smederevo, Ivan Konatar, in his final words proposed to the court to sentence Blažić to the maximum prison terms of 20 years.
Although Uroš Blažić has been charged with several crimes, including aggravated murder, he can be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison, given that he was under 21 years of age at the time of the commission of the crime and is a minor under the law.
A total of 10 lawyers joined the prosecutor's words for the attorneys of the injured, that is, the family members of the killed and wounded, and some of them highlighted their property legal claims.
The defense attorney of the accused Uroš Blažić, Petar Luković, proposed to the court that his defendant be convicted according to the law, while the defense attorney of Radiša Blažić, Duško Pudja, claims that the prosecution did not prove his guilt. Uroš Blažić presented his defense during the court proceedings, which began at the end of May, but he did not want to talk about the crime or the motive, but instead talked about his father, emphasizing that he was innocent and did not know about weapons.
His father, Radiša Blažić, has denied guilt since the beginning of the trial. The preliminary hearing in this case was supposed to be held in the building of the High Court in Smederevo, however, at the very beginning of the hearing, at the moment when the court guard brought in Blažić, family members of the murdered and wounded attacked them, which is why the trial was interrupted and moved to the District Prison building.
The preliminary hearing was held in that building, but due to the small courtroom in which not all the injured parties could fit, it was moved to the building of the Special Court in Ustanička Street in Belgrade, where the verdict will be announced.
Uroš Blažić was charged with aggravated murder in connection with the criminal acts of illegal production, possession, carrying and trafficking of weapons and explosive substances, kidnapping and unauthorized use of someone else's vehicle.
His father, Radiša Blažić, was charged with the criminal offense of illegal production, possession, carrying and placing on the market of weapons and explosive substances in conjunction with the criminal offense of serious crime against general security.
Uroš Blažić was charged that on May 4, in the villages of Malo Orašje near Smederevo and Dubona near Mladenovac, he killed nine people, two of whom were minors, and tried to kill another 20 people, shooting from an automatic rifle and a pistol, wounding 12 of them.
