The most dramatic flight of "Air Serbia" that was watched by the whole world VIDEO
The photo of the "Air Serbia" plane taking off from the airport moments after the attack on Beirut went viral, and now the pilots of that plane have revealed the details of the dramatic flight.
Let's recall that 85 adult passengers and three babies were returned from Beirut to Belgrade on the "Air Serbia" plane, at the time of heavy shelling of the Lebanese capital.
Airbus captain Nemanja Janjatović and Airbus examiner Goran Nižić piloted the plane, and they told RTS that the flight was one of the most difficult in their careers.
They also point out that the passengers told them when they got on the plane that they couldn't wait to see them and hear the Serbian language.
In the plane of the Serbian national airline were our citizens and members of their families, who were evacuated from the war zone.
"Airbus" captain Nemanja Janjatović said that returning passengers from Lebanon was the most difficult moment in his career, having visited "difficult" flights during the coronavirus and from Tel Aviv.
Speaking about the landing, Janjatović said that "Air Serbia" has not had a regular route to Beirut for years.
"It is an old flight, we are experienced on it and we were familiar with the airport. We are operators of highly sophisticated machines, the procedures in our work are complex and we cannot rely on whether we know the airport or not," points out Janjatović.
When asked how the crew felt, Janjatović says that they are focused above all on the safety of the plane, crew and passengers.
"We react promptly based on the information we receive in real time," says the Airbus captain.
Goran Nižić told RTS that passengers were not scared during the flight, because "Air Serbia" has a "family relationship".
"When entering the plane, if you didn't know it was a repatriation flight, the flight would have seemed normal with a relaxed atmosphere and the words that they couldn't wait to see us and hear the Serbian language," says Nižić.
According to him, after landing in Surčin, they first saw their colleagues, and contacted their families, who already know that the plane returned safely.
"The photo that went around the world was striking, it seems both positive and scary. We are proud of the photo, the company," says Nižić.
He notes that the preparation of the flight, which should be organized in a short period of time to the biggest crisis area, is comprehensive.
"Various teams from the Government, the Directorate of Civil Aviation and diplomatic and consular missions around the world are involved in the organization of the flight. It is a task that has been put before the company to be carried out in the shortest possible period," explains Nižić.
