Government of Serbia has decided that May 3 and 4 will be Days of Remembrance for the Victims of Mass Murders

This Decision was made at the proposal of the Ministry of Education, and at the initiative of the Victimology Society of Serbia, which was supported by the Working Group for the establishment of the Memorial Center in memory of the victims of the mass murder at the Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School.

The decision, which declared May 3 and 4 as Days of Remembrance for the Victims of Mass Murders, encourages the building of a culture of remembrance for the victims and sends a clear message that the victims must not be forgotten, and that such tragic events must not be repeated.

Various activities would contribute to raising the awareness of the public, especially young people, about how to prevent such tragic events from happening again. Starting from the 2024/2025 school year, the Ministry of Education established in the regulations on the calendar of educational work of primary and secondary schools the observance of the Week of Remembrance and Community, as fostering a culture of remembrance and honoring the innocent victims - students and young people through examples of good practice realized during the school year, development and promotion of humanity, empathy, tolerance, respect and dialogue.
