The state of emergency in Serbia, the fight is still going on PHOTO/VIDEO
The fight against the fires on Mount Vidlić continues, and the biggest problem is still in Basara near Pirot, while in Žagubica and Kučevo the spread of the fire towards the villages has been stopped.
On Stara Planina, the fire has consumed more than 2,000 hectares of low vegetation and forest, and it is most critical in the village of Basara near Pirot, where a pine forest is burning, reports RTS.
In the municipality of Dimitrovgrad, near the village of Smilovci, the fire was brought under control and largely extinguished.
Pirot and Dimitrovgrad declared a state of emergency in part of their territories. Extinction is made difficult by inaccessible and rocky terrain.
Firefighters, crews from the "Srbijašume" company, members of the volunteer fire brigade, local residents, and helicopters are on the ground day and night.
The fire is active in Beljanica near Žagubica and in the municipality of Kučevo.
Active fires burned more than 3,000 hectares in the municipalities of Žagubica and Kučevo. The spread of the fire towards the villages has been stopped, but there are still parts that the firefighters cannot reach and contain the fire.
Yesterday, Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić visited the firefighters who are fighting the fires in Vidlić and near Žagubica and said that the two biggest fires - on Stara planina and in the vicinity of Žagubica - have been put "under one type of control" and that MIA will use all its capacities to prevent further spread of the fire throughout Serbia.
During his tour of Žagubica, Dacic stated that there are 200 fires a day in Serbia, and that since the beginning of the year, there have been between 20,000 and 25,000 interventions due to fires, of which 14,000 were due to open fires.
