Serbia on fire; State of emergency declared

Pirot and Dimitrovgrad declared a state of emergency in part of their territories.

As reported by RTS, the worst situation is in the vicinity of the village of Krupac, above which the forest is burning, and the citizens have built barriers so that the fire does not get close to the houses.

The inhabitants of the village of Krupac near Pirot appealed to everyone who can come and help prevent the fire from spreading towards the village. Several fire engines headed towards the forest.

It is also difficult in the village of Smilovci near Dimitrovgrad, where the fire reached a few hundred meters from the monastery of Saint Cyr and Sainte Julitte, so the defense of the monastery is currently a priority, according to RTS.

The fight against the fire during the night was also conducted in the village of Basara near Pirot, in the vicinity of which a pine forest is burning.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that 179 fires were recorded in the open area yesterday, and that currently the largest active fires are in the territory of Pirot, Kučevo, Žagubica, Crni vrh and Tara.

In the last seven days, members of the Department for Emergency Situations intervened on 893 fires in open spaces, and for the same period last year, they had 393 responses in open spaces.

The Department for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs once again appealed to citizens to be careful and to comply with the Law on Fire Protection, stressing that in the hot days that have been going on for a long time in our country, any carelessness can lead to large-scale fires.
