Wounded gendarme Jevremović revealed why he did not remove the arrow: It stopped 2 millimeters from the artery
Miloš Jevremović, the gendarme who was wounded by an arrow during the terrorist attack in front of the Israeli Embassy, was hosted on the show Jutro on TV Prva.
He described how he felt that June 29, when the attack happened.
"It was a completely normal day, until that situation when everything changed. I remember everything. Žujović was not suspicious when he approached the first time, because we try to help people and answer all questions. The second time when he approached, he became suspicious. Then the attack happened," Jevremovic said.
When asked what his colleagues said, Jevremović said: "Colleagues analyzed the situation, I tried to answer the task professionally, everyone was satisfied with my reaction, I received only praise".
"Situations that we go through every day during trainings, when such a situation occurs, as far as stress is concerned, we are used to it. We try to do everything according to the law and follow the steps we are trained for. In such a situation, the adrenaline kicks in and you focus on task, in this case to repel an attack," he said.
When asked why he didn't take the arrow out of his neck, which most people would do reflexively, and which saved his life, the gendarme said:
"I felt I could breathe and react... It was like a movie, I hope no one will experience this."
He says that the family found out about everything through the media, because everything was happening quickly and they were under a lot of stress.
He was able to communicate and was able to contact his family immediately after the surgery.
As for the surgery, he says the surgery went as well as possible thanks to the doctors.
"First of all it was risky that the arrow entered the main artery, but fortunately when they opened it, they saw that it stopped 2 millimeters from the artery," he said.
He pointed out that he did not feel like a hero.
"I was just doing my job. Heroism is not just about those things, a man who fights for his family is a hero. We're going further, pushing through...", explained the gendarme.
