The reason why it was tougher to enroll in the preferred high school this year
Due to the change in the law, according to which the number of students in secondary schools decreased from 30 to 28 per class, the competition for places in certain schools was fiercer this year than in previous years.
According to the newspaper "Blic", this automatically meant fewer vacancies, greater competition and a higher number of points required for enrollment.
Thus, in certain schools, such as the Fifth Belgrade High School and the "Nikola Tesla" Electrical Engineering School in Pančevo, the threshold was raised by four points, the newspaper writes, adding that the biggest differences were recorded outside Belgrade in medical schools, so in the Medical School in Sombor the threshold raised by five points.
The paper also states that interest in "fancy schools" in the center of Belgrade, such as the Third and Fourteenth Gymnasiums, has declined.
It is also stated that 81.43 percent of students, who were assigned in the first round, managed to enroll in one of the first three preferred schools.
There was a lot of interest in the health and social care majors, and it should be noted that out of 59,091 students, 48,966 were enrolled, of which 15,108 were enrolled in high schools, and 10,125 students were enrolled in three-year educational profiles.
1,524 students remain unassigned, and they will be able to enroll in the remaining vacancies - 7,866 remain in the four-year profiles, and 3,783 in the three-year high school profiles.
