End of the school year for eighth graders and high school graduates
For graduates of three-year and four-year secondary vocational schools, as well as eighth grade students in Serbia, today is the last day of school in this school year.
Other elementary school students, from the first to the seventh grade, finish their classes on June 14, and all high school students seven days later, on June 21.
Junior high school graduates, i.e. students who finish the eighth grade in June, are waiting for preparatory classes, then junior high school graduation on June 17, 18 and 19, and finally enrollment in high school, depending on the success achieved at the entrance exam and success during schooling.
High school graduates who want to continue their education are also waiting for admission to university. For high school graduates in Serbia, the last day of school was May 24, but that was not the end of their duties, because they have the matriculation exam ahead of them, and for those who continue their education, the entrance exam for faculties.
Traditionally, primary and secondary school graduates mark the last day of school with celebrations in the schoolyards, with songs and music, walking through the city streets, and in previous years in Belgrade, the event was also marked by bathing in the fountain on Nikola Pašić Square, as well as on Ada Ciganlija.
