Romania has a new government; The Prime Minister said: It will not be easy
The Romanian Parliament elected a new pro-European coalition government led by the current Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
Last night, 240 MPs voted for the new government, while 143 out of a total of 466 MPs voted against, AP reported.
The new ruling coalition consists of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) of Marcel Çiolacu, the Center-Right National Liberal Party (PNL), the Hungarian UDMR party and the parties of national minorities.
"It will not be an easy mandate for the future government," said Çiolacu, whose PSD party won the most seats in the parliamentary elections on December 1.
Çiolacu pointed out that he is aware that there is currently a deep political crisis and a crisis of confidence in Romania, stating that the goal of the new government is to restore the confidence of the people.
The far-right made significant gains in Romania's parliamentary elections held on December 1, a week after right-wing independent candidate Călin Georgescu won the first round of the presidential election.
In December, the Constitutional Court annulled the results of the first round of presidential elections due to, as it stated, Russia's interference in the election process.
The new government should set a date for holding presidential elections.
