"This morning, the inhabitants of Kamena Gora spotted a man walking through the forest with a backpack and a rifle on his shoulder. Strong police forces, led by the gendarmerie, are combing this area. Whether it is Balijagić, or a new false alarm, will be known during the day. The area is being checked at the border itself, the Montenegrin police did that. They searched the houses of some of Alija's acquaintances where he used to stay," a source familiar with the case told the Regional News Agency RINA.

Due to the potential danger of fugitives, a large number of schools in the rural areas of Brodarevo and Bijelo Polje are closed, and students attend classes online.

Alia has a hit list?

Since 1983, Alija Balijagić has been prosecuted for robberies and thefts, ten years ago he was accused and convicted of raping an old woman from Bijelo Polje.

"This is a dangerous criminal, who spent half of his life in prison. His own father even testified against him once upon a time, because Alija wanted to steal an expensive rifle from his own brother, who is the exact opposite of him. There is a story that Alija now has a list of people to be killed, on which is everyone who has offended him. People will calm down only when that murderer is arrested and brought to justice," says a resident of the village of Bjelo Polje.

The police of Serbia and Montenegro are looking for Balijagić for the murder of Milenka and Jovan Madžgalj on October 25. It is assumed that he committed the murder with a hunting rifle that he stole, and because of that theft, the police were looking for him even before the murder, but Balijagić always eluded them.

The motive for the murder of Madžgalj brother and sister is not known, but as the Montenegrin police said, it was definitely not of a religious nature.

What complicates the search for the fugitive is primarily the inaccessible terrain, which Balijagić knows very well, but also the large number of false reports that lead the police in the wrong direction.

"People are terrified to the point that Balijagić appears to them in the store, in transport. A general state of fear has crept into the people. I can't even imagine what it's like for these people who live in those remote border villages, near which the fugitive is most likely hiding. I just can't believe that the police can't find him," concludes the interlocutor for the RINA agency.
