Massacre in the nursing home: Death toll rises; He drank and was aggressive
Several people were killed today in the Home for the Elderly and Infirm in Daruvar, Croatia.
Jutarnji list reports that another person died in the hospital in Virovitica after the attacker opened fire in a Home in Daruvar. This brought the number of victims to six.
The owner of the Home was also wounded in the shooting
Chief State Prosecutor Ivan Turudić, who arrived in Daruvar after the tragedy, said that he had information that the owner of the Home for the elderly, where the unprecedented tragedy took place, was also wounded in this morning's shooting.
He also confirmed that the surviving tenants of the Home were transferred to the Veterans' Center.
Acquaintance of the killer: Rumor has it that he is aggressive and drinks alcohol
"I know him from the Homeland War, he is from Daruvar. He is 51 years old, born in 1973. Rumor has it that he is aggressive, drinks alcohol. Now he is retired and has PTSD. His mother was here, he allegedly came to kill her. Unfortunate and sad story, what else is there to say," one resident of Daruvar told Nova TV.
Plenković: We are shocked, it is a monstrous act
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković assessed today's massacre in the Home for the Elderly in Daruvar as a monstrous act, where five people were killed on the spot, the sixth died in the hospital, and several people were wounded.
"We are shocked. It is a monstrous act - the murder of several people, a mother, and other very old people. Mostly people born in the 1930s. We condemn, of course, that crime," Plenković told reporters in Split.
It must be seen, Plenković said, what happened to cause such a monstrous murder of several people in the Home for the Elderly.
"We had a lot of difficult situations, but I don't remember anything like this, that so many people were killed," said the Croatian Prime Minister and added that he will inform the public what exactly it is about when he has more information.
"We are appalled and outraged by this terrible crime," the Croatian Prime Minister said, the media reported.
When asked about better control of weapons, Plenković says that the police have been collecting illegal weapons in private possession for years.
