Research conducted: Citizens of Montenegro would support the Resolution on the genocide in Jasenovac
The announced initiative on the Resolution on Genocide in Jasenovac would be supported by 41.7 percent of Montenegrin citizens, according to research data from the DAMAR Institute, reports RTV.
According to these data, 32.5 percent would be against this initiative, and 25.8 percent of citizens did not have an opinion on this topic.
The survey was conducted from May 16 to 23. On May 17, a group of representatives of the authorities submitted a proposal for a resolution on the genocide in Jasenovac to the parliamentary procedure. From the parties in power, the proposal was not signed by deputies from two Albanian coalitions - the Albanian Forum and the Albanian Alliance.
The majority for the adoption of the resolution exists even without their three votes.
The proposal states that in the period from 1941 to 1945, Serbs, Jews, Roma, Croats and other peoples were tortured and killed in Jasenovac. It is stated that April 22 should be officially recognized as the day of remembrance of the genocide in Jasenovac, which will be celebrated every year.
"The Assembly condemns any denial of the genocide in Jasenovac and calls for the preservation of the memory of those tragic events through educational programs and activities that will prevent any form of revisionism. Through the adoption of this resolution, the Assembly undertakes to actively contribute to the preservation of the memory of the victims of the genocide in Jasenovac, promotes tolerance, understanding and fight against all forms of hatred and discrimination," the document reads.
It also says that it encourages the celebration of April 22 as a day of remembrance for the victims of the genocide in Jasenovac, and that the Assembly will send a delegation every year to participate in commemoration programs.
"The Assembly encourages state organizations at all levels, the President of Montenegro, civil society, including non-governmental organizations, academic institutions and other relevant parties, to commemorate April 22, including the organization of special events and activities in memory of the victims of the genocide in Jasenovac... ", it was stated, among other things, in the document, reported by Podgorica Vijesti.
