NATO sends a battalion to BiH: EUFOR is crucial?
After the Deputy Chairman of the BiH House of Representatives, Denis Zvizdić, said yesterday that NATO is sending a reserve battalion to BiH, the portal Klik.ba addressed the NATO alliance.
Klix.ba asked NATO if it will deploy reserve forces in Bosnia-Herzegovina and, if so, which forces.
"NATO and the European Union have a long-standing cooperation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and across the Western Balkans. NATO welcomes the temporary deployment of strategic forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in support of the EU-led Operation Althea. EUFOR plays a key role in maintaining a safe and secure environment, supported by NATO, according to the Berlin plus arrangements", the answer from the head office in Brussels states.
Zvizdić said yesterday that NATO is sending a battalion of reserve forces to BiH in support of the EUFOR Althea military mission and that this is a long-awaited and strategically extremely important decision to extinguish secessionist and irredentist ideas and preserve peace and stability.
Zvizdić previously called on NATO to deploy a contingent of soldiers in Brčko District, and EUFOR forces to "be present more often" in the places of return.
Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, visited Brussels two days ago at the invitation of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, where he requested NATO's proactive engagement, including deterrence measures, in order to prevent any disruption of peace and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This includes the return of NATO forces to military bases in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We remind you that the President of the entity of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, said on several occasions that everything is ready for the declaration of independence of the RS and that he will do so in the event that the High Representative in BiH imposes a solution on state property.
