Vučić spoke out: Let's show respect for those who think differently; Important address this afternoon VIDEO
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated today that attempts to further attack Serbian institutions are behind the students' raid on Matica Srpska, which the state will strongly oppose.
He stated that he would announce important news to the citizens of Serbia in the afternoon. He also said that things in Serbia can only change through democracy.
In a video address via his Instagram account buducnostsrbijeav, Vučić said that last night "some people" interrupted the St. Sava Academy of Matica Srpska, stating that this had never happened before in our country.
"Dear citizens, last night some people interrupted the St. Sava Academy of Matica Srpska, one of the three most important institutions in the Serbian people, along with the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. This has never happened in our country before. Some people thought they had the right to destroy our history, tradition, and culture. Ours is to respond to this with peace, patience, and a serious approach, to educate and change ourselves and our children in a different way, and to never let this happen again in the future."
He assessed that behind this are attempts to further attacks on Serbian institutions, especially in northern Serbia.
"Behind this, of course, are attempts to further attacks on all Serbian institutions, especially in northern Serbia. We will oppose this. We will oppose this sharply and fiercely," said the president and added:
"We will oppose it with all permitted and democratic political means. At the same time, it is important for us to show our attitude towards political opponents in a peaceful and tolerant manner. It is important to preserve stability, to show respect for those who think differently."
He assessed that it is good that all city and state services have provided for today's illegal gathering and illegal road-blocks at the Autokomanda. He stated that it is very important that there are enough toilets, firefighters, ambulances and that the police do not allow any incidents, primarily in traffic.
"That's why I'm calling on the competent state authorities - it's good that the city services, that the state services have provided everything for today's illegal gathering and the illegal blockade of the Autokomanda", he said.
"This week we will open new sections of highways, this week we will show how Serbia is progressing and we just have to call on all citizens to peace, to respect diversity, and we will solve problems democratically and in democratic institutions, so that the case of Matica Srpska and the Saint Sava Academy will never happen again," Vučić concluded.
"Happy Saint Sava Day! Stay tuned, in the afternoon we will announce important news to the citizens of Serbia," Vučić wrote in the description of the video.
As a reminder, the Speaker of the Serbian Parliament Ana Brnabić announced that this afternoon Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Prime Minister Miloš Vučević and herself as the Speaker of the National Assembly will address the public.
Brnabić said that they will address the current situation in the country.
"Tomorrow afternoon, the three of us will address the current situation in the country. President Aleksandar Vučić, of course, as the man with the greatest legitimacy. The man who has the greatest trust of the people. He was the only one to win the elections in his own name. Miloš Vučević as the Prime Minister, that is, members of the executive branch, and me as the Speaker of the National Assembly. Regarding the current situation in the country, some important decisions will be announced. Of course, it is not up to me to talk about it. After all, I assume that we will be working on it tonight and tomorrow, so not everything has been agreed exactly," said Ana Brnabić on the show "Hit Tweet".
Representatives of the so-called Serbian opposition, who have been causing riots and protests for some time now, have crossed every line tonight. The worried faces of those present can be seen in the video, because despite all the chaos caused previously, no one believed that they would go that far. More details on this in a separate news item.
