"Unfortunately, eight people died in the fire. I have to say that the members of the Emergency Situations Sector really reacted very quickly and saved, that is, practically evacuated, 13 people. First of all, I want to express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims," ​​Nemanja Starović, Minister of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs said.

Seven injured persons, as he stated, were taken over by the ambulance and transported to the VMA and the Emergency Center, said Luka Čaušić, head of the Department for Emergency Situations.

According to him, after receiving a report this morning at 3:32 a.m., units of the Department for Emergency Situations were immediately sent to the scene and found the fire in a raging stage.

"At the moment, they are still searching for a residual source that could cause a further fire, and the cause will be determined in the coming hours," he said.

As he added, the nursing home is located far from busy roads, but fire brigades arrived quickly and the injured were helped in record time.

"This is a great tragedy, but it could have been much bigger," Čaušić concluded. Earlier, Tanjug was told in the Emergency Service that the Emergency Service teams are on the ground in Veliki Borak, where the fire broke out this morning. The fire was extinguished, and a large number of firefighters and fire engines participated in the extinguishing.

Possible arson?

As Novosti learns, the fire was caused by a person who set fire to a mattress in the room of the nursing home, and it burned in the fire. They say that the person who started the fire had mental problems.
