Ana Brnabić's address: "Here's 100 signatures"
Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, addresses the media.
She said in the parliament building that CRTA, which is the most credible NGO for the opposition, published four days ago the results of a large survey that they said they conducted it on a "nationally representative sample" of 1,030 respondents, which showed that Aleksandar Vučić does not enjoy trust.
As CRTA claims, Brnabić points out, if a referendum were held now, 52 percent would deny support to Vučić, and only 34 percent expressed confidence in the President of Serbia.
She pointed out that it is not about any kind of research, but that it is about the research of a non-governmental organization that gives itself the right to speak about the elections in Serbia and about their legitimacy and that presents itself as a protector of public interests, and it is also an NGO that represents the interests of the opposition, who is a dear guest of the parliaments of the EU countries, especially in the Bundestag, where they talk about the situation in Serbia.
I have no doubt that they will present this research all over the world.
Everyone should know that the most important thing for Vučić is the trust of the citizens and that the most important thing is that he derives legitimacy from that trust, which, as he says, is the most important for the president of Serbia.
If this research is taken into account, we will not ignore it and that is why we are here today. We here directly present the will of those citizens of Serbia who participated in this representative survey, and who were given the honor of being people's deputies and sitting in this house, and it is our duty to do something about it and to protect the will of the citizens and democracy.
"The ball is in our court," said Brnabić, holding up a paper on which there were 100 signatures of members of the government who will support the initiative of opposition members to call an advisory referendum on the president of Serbia.
She said that the question in the referendum will be: "Are you in favor of starting the procedure for dismissing the President of Serbia", pointing out that Vučić himself said on Tuesday that the results of the citizens' declaration will be binding for him.
"If 50 percent plus one citizen of those who went to the referendum say that they have no confidence in Vučić, he himself will resign," said Brnabić.
"We are going to an advisory referendum, we are going to ask the people, the citizens, to ask them if you want us to start an advisory referendum. Nothing more democratic," said Brnabić.
Let's recall that she previously announced that today she will submit 100 signatures of the members of the ruling majority to hold an advisory referendum on confidence in President Aleksandar Vučić.
Brnabić said last night that she expects the opposition to provide her with 67 signatures before the press conference, which are necessary in order to hold an advisory referendum on the confidence in the President of Serbia.
