Lajčak: This week the focus is on the missing persons
The EU Special Envoy for Dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajčak, announced today that this week in Brussels, the focus will be on the issue of the missing and that the first meeting of the Joint Commission is coming up.
"Back in Brussels, the focus this week will be on missing persons with the first meeting of the Joint Commission coming up," Lajcak said on Facebook.
He recalled that during his first mission this year, he stayed in the USA, where he had a number of meetings.
Lajcak specified that in Washington he "held detailed discussions" with the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, James O'Brien, and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Balkans, Alexander Kasanof.
"Together we dealt with the geopolitical challenges and opportunities facing the region, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation and the need for progress in the dialogue on normalization," said Lajcak.
He added that he also had the opportunity to brief US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma ahead of his visit to the region.
After Washington, he pointed out that he stayed in New York, where he had substantive discussions with the leadership of the United Nations.
"The detailed exchange with UN Secretary-General António Guterres allowed us to exchange views on regional dynamics, while my meeting with UN Under-Secretary Rosemary DiCarlo reinforced the need for well-coordinated multilateral efforts to support the Western Balkans on its path to European integration," Lajcak wrote.
