Vučić: November 1 was the saddest day; It is our job to learn the lessons and punish those responsible
President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, spoke on TV Prva central news at 6 p.m. about all current topics.
He said that this year there were both good and sad events and that Serbia was the second fastest growing economy and that life will be even better next year.
We also got EXPO.
But the saddest moment in 2024 was November 1. "How do I explain to all those mothers and fathers what happened," he said, adding that it had become a political issue.
Such things can always happen, he added.
"I went everywhere to express my condolences, to bear the pain and I will always do that. But that is my job and I will always do that and thanks to that today you have more people who can travel to Paris, Rome, Milan... on New Year's holidays," said Vučić.
But they will never admit that the state is partly responsible for that, added Vučić, noting that some are always there to criticize the state.
"On November 3, a coup d'état was attempted in Serbia, whoever betrayed it will have to answer," said Vučić.
Speaking about the student protests, he said that they are not Bolsheviks and that there are a lot of good, hard-working students among them, but that they represent a minority.
They said, he recalled, that the institutions should make decisions, and when they go to those institutions they won't talk, Vučić said.
He pointed out that he is not afraid of harassment and harangue, because he received more votes in the presidential elections than all the Croatian candidates combined.
"I'm always ready to talk, and I'm repeating it now, but they don't have any argument. The prosecution reacted. They made it up - give us the construction notebooks, here are all the notebooks," said Vučić.
When asked how he commented on tonight's gathering of students, he said that he saw that the students had already started preparing what they were going to eat.
"The problem with me is that I'm free, I'll be president for two more years and I'll never be president again. I love this people, I haven't gone on vacation for a single day, in 12 years we've built up Serbia so that we have more railways and roads than we had, our salaries are higher than they have ever been...", said Vučić and asked: If you have all that in mind - why should I be afraid."
"The bottom line is that everything came down to one argument, and that is - we hate you, Vučić, because success is unforgivable," he said, stating that he is not afraid of members of the police who worked with Spasojević and are now secretly meeting with Dragan Bjelogrić.
The most important thing for us is to continue working, he added.
He pointed out, answering the question whether we still have a social and political crisis, that we don't have a crisis just because he is being called various names.
"They can't beat me, they can't drive me away, and I advise them to do the one thing they have left, to decide to be Apis, but they don't have the courage for that," said Vučić, adding that he only answers to the people of Serbia.
"I will continue to fight for full economic and political stability, for pensions to be paid on Christmas Day, for pensioners to be able to buy themselves a roast beef and put it on the table, to look to the future and new results," said Vučić.
People, he continued, know how to respect all that.
The fiercest fight against corruption
In the next three months, citizens of Serbia will see the strongest fight against corruption. As he said, it will also be directed against those who have tried too hard.
Everyone will be surprised how powerful it will be, and the citizens of Serbia will like it.
The next three months will be crucial, said Vučić.
He did not want to reveal a single name, saying that it was the job of the prosecution. However, he noted that no one will be able to stop it.
"People are fed up with everything," he said.
About elections
When asked if there will be elections, he said that they are not impossible, but that it is impossible to form a transitional government.
"At least one murder must happen before that, there will be no transitional government, period," he underlined.
He thanked the citizens of Serbia, who are his strength. He wished them to have a good time and be happy, that the next year will be better for them, and that he and the government will make sure that they will really be better off economically.
I want to thank everyone who loves Serbia, Serbia is everything to me, I fight and live for it and I will never give it up without a fight, said the President of Serbia.
He once again wished everyone a happy New Year and lots of health in it.
