The University of Novi Sad announced: Blockades are inadmissible, the faculty is not a place for politics

We transmit the statement in its entirety:

"To the academic community, citizens of the Republic of Serbia,

We are addressing you on behalf of the Rectorate and Dean's College of the University of Novi Sad. We are all members of the academic community with a deep belief in the importance of freedom of thought and expression, which are the necessary foundation of any democratic society. In that spirit, I want to highlight a few key messages:

We are convinced that we all share a common goal. Every accident should be thoroughly investigated and the competent authorities should carry out their work professionally and responsibly. Supporting these efforts is a reflection of our shared responsibility towards society.

Faculties are places of free thought, knowledge and dialogue and as such, must remain open and functional for all students and professors. Any form of violence and blocking of faculty work is inadmissible and contrary to the values ​​for which the academic community stands.

The university is a place that belongs to everyone, regardless of political beliefs. In accordance with the Law on Higher Education and Academic Values, colleges must not be a place for political demands or ideological conflicts. Such activities are contrary to the spirit of the university and can undermine the atmosphere that should be focused on education, research and academic debate.

We invite you to jointly find a way of expressing your views that will not damage the work and mission of the faculty, with full respect for the law and academic norms. Only through a constructive dialogue can we preserve the integrity and dignity of our community, enable the unhindered work of the faculty and, at the same time, set an example for society on how freedom of thought can be used responsibly and with dignity.
