Vučić announced: Belgrade - Trieste from 2026
President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, is participating in the Business Forum "Serbia - Nord East Italy - regional connection of businessmen" held at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.
"In previous years, we raised the level of trade exchange with Italy for the first time to over five billion euros on an annual basis. Exchange of services 650 million, but I am not particularly happy, it depends on whether I am talking about imports or exports 36 or 31 percent of their total imports or exports with the Western Balkans. We are the second country in that regard. We are a little jealous of that and it is our job to overtake Albania in the future, while respecting all their traditional ties," said Vučić.
"Our lack of involvement in attracting Italian investments is the reason why we are not number one in the Western Balkans," he added.
He pointed out that Serbia has the second highest growth rate in Europe, that only Malta is ahead, and that next year we expect a growth rate of 4.2-4.3 percent.
"From 2026, we will dedicate ourselves to the direction that goes from Belgrade to Trieste, until then we will finish Budapest and Istanbul first. We will work on the direction Belgrade-Zagreb-Ljubljana-Trieste, which will create incomparably better conditions for investments in our country and cooperation," Vucic said.
"It is a good opportunity for you to invest in Serbia. We are developing the fastest, here you will have loyal and faithful friends. I believe that Italy can benefit a lot. Feel at home here, Italy is extremely popular in Serbia, I think there are more Serbs who bought apartments in Trieste, rather than Italians," he concluded.
The aim of holding the forum is to present the concept and project of the three regions of Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Trento, "Nord Est" and bring them closer to domestic companies, as well as to promote the potential for further improvement of economic cooperation and the connection of the two markets, Serbia and Italy.
The forum will focus on sectors such as agrotechnology, energy and green transition, transport and logistics, construction, health, artificial intelligence applied to industrial processes, environmental protection and waste management, green transition, smart cities and sustainable mobility, finance and insurance and ICT.
A special role will be played by the regions of Friuli, Veneto and Trento, which boast the most advanced innovation ecosystem in Italy. Bilateral meetings of businessmen will be held as part of the business forum.
