Vučević: By the end of the week, news on resignations, Prosecutor's Office to come out with investigation data
The Prime Minister of Serbia, Miloš Vučević, said today that news of new resignations due to the accident in Novi Sad is expected by the end of the week, and called on the competent Prosecutor's Office to announce the progress of the investigation.
"I think by the end of the week we could have news on that matter. It's not a question of a race against time, some fulfillment of the norm. Of course, when we talk about it, we talk about short time frames. These decisions are made with a cold head and cannot be carried by emotions that are certainly present," Vučević told reporters in Čajetina.
According to him, those decisions do not mean that something is technically "done", but a decision is made on the issue of objective political responsibility.
Vučević called on the rosecutor's office to announce the progress of the investigation. "Like the President of the Republic, I would like to ask, respecting the independence of the Prosecutor's Office, that the competent prosecutor's office come out with information on how far they have reached with the investigative actions, so that the Serbian public can be assured that the prosecutor's office is working on it," said Vučević.
As he said, the big question is whether the accident was caused by wrongdoing or inaction or a combination of both, and that it is not a question of political character, but requires a technical analysis.
"Certainly someone is guilty. Someone must be held criminally accountable. It will not be easy for the prosecution. The prosecution must tell how far it has come. I think 36 people have been questioned. It will be two weeks since the accident happened on Friday. We will deal with political responsibility, which it is not subjective, we will discuss it in the coming days," said Vučević.
