Vučić: I congratulated Trump first; Europe is late; "Either receive us or let the strategic battles be fought"
President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, addressed the media, after a conversation with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fijala, who is on an official visit to Serbia.
Speaking about the US elections, the President of Serbia said that he congratulated Trump, among the first in the world. "I also spoke with people from Trump's closest circle", he said.
In Serbia, unlike many in Europe, they hoped for Trump's victory. Now everyone will race to congratulate him even though they said he was the devil, and now they will draw his wings. I can say what I expect, one is what I expect regarding Serbia and how it will affect global and regional circumstances, and accordingly directly on Serbia.
There will be no tectonic changes when it comes to changes in American policy towards Serbia, said the President of Serbia and reminded that our country has maintained good contacts with Trump's team. Observing the foreign policy, geopolitical impact that Trump's victory will have - as Vučić says, the relationship between the USA and China, as well as that he believes that Trump will try to separate China from Russia, and thus will affect the achievement of peace in Ukraine.
Vučić also emphasized that he expects pressure from the USA when it comes to our cooperation with China, which, according to him, they perceive as their strategic opponent on the global stage.
"We will be under pressure to reduce our level of relations with the People's Republic of China. That is our assessment, I would like to be wrong about that, but I am afraid I am not," the president said.
Vučić also adds that, after Trump's victory, he expects the end of the war in Ukraine.
"I am convinced that the US President, and I know this firsthand, will offer and seek solutions that will not be easy to find. The question is whether anyone in Russia at this moment wants the war to end," said Vučić.
As for us, we will have good relations with Trump and we believe that our voice will be well heard, Vučić concluded.
The Czech Prime Minister also said that he congratulated the new US President Donald Trump, believing that good relations will continue.
"Europe must take more care of its security, we cannot rely on the US to solve all our problems. This means greater investments, we have not fulfilled those obligations for a long time, now we are already fulfilling them," said Fijala.
However, Vučić said that he thinks that Europe should have thought about its own security a long time ago, and that it is long overdue in this matter. That, as he points out, Europe must change immediately because Europe is lagging behind in the economic sense as well.
"They have to understand where they belong, they have to work harder, they have to make strategic and not bureaucratic decisions. When they ask us how many chapters we have opened, I have no idea, so I ask, and you know why? Nobody here is interested in that. We are interested in the essence," said Vučić.
"Either you will let us into the EU or you won't, so let strategic battles be fought over us, we are small but we are not stupid", said Vučić.
