Vučić on mandatory military service; Here is who will have to join the army, for how long, and when it starts

Earlier today, during a tour of the works on the construction of the Šabac-Loznica high-speed road, he already announced that the decision on mandatory military service, as requested by the Ministry of Defense of Serbia, will be made in 20 days.

A little bit later, during the presentation of the military exercise of the Special Forces of the Serbian Army, Vučić revealed that the plan was for mandatory military service to last 75 days, as well as that it would be mandatory for men and voluntary for women, as well as that military service could be introduced in about a year.

"We have now talked about military service and we will probably make that decision. At this moment, the assessments have not been completed and the discussions are ongoing," Vučić said during a tour of the tactical-technical collection of equipment and weapons used by members of the special units of the Serbian Armed Forces.

He added that there are several other problems, but that one must try to save people in the country.

"That they don't leave us because of the extremely short military service, which would be mandatory for men, voluntary for women. But the term would be two months plus 15 days of training, which means 75 days. I think that is the minimum that every man can give to his country," said Vučić.

He also said that not insignificant monetary compensation will be determined for the time they spend in the barracks of the Serbian Army.

"We have to make that decision quickly, for many reasons, but first of all, we have to save those younger people who are connected to the IT sector and give them special conditions to be able to go, but we have to agree on how to do that with the Military institute, with our liaison units, so that they can contribute their knowledge without having to go through the infantry training that each of us went through and everything else contribute the most to their country in those 75 days. So we are now looking for all the modalities and we will soon come before you with the method of payment, while ensuring the best conditions for our soldiers," said Vučić.

He emphasized that they also agreed to rebuild barracks in different parts of Serbia.

"You have seen how nice the barracks look in Loznica, as far as Sombor, Kladovo, Pirot, Surdulica, there will be in Priboj and Kraljevo and many other places. When we leave from Valjevo to Prijepolje, we no longer have an army company anywhere, so now we will change that and slowly provide that depth of reserve that can enable us to help in case of any aggressor attack. The obligation is reduced to only 75 days, so it is not a big problem, but it is of great importance for our army. It is a new 100 million euros in our budget, but we think it will be returned to the people in different ways," said Vučić.

He says that when, for example, you have 600-700 soldiers in Sombor, then you have to count at least three eggs a day, milk, bread and everything else.

"These are factories for the cities where they will be. This is a new life in those cities, this is more consumption in restaurants, bars, in everything else," said Vučić.
