Vučić speaks from London: "I expect Macron in Belgrade"
President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, is speaking from London, where he is attending the Summit of the European Political Community.
Today he met with a number of high state officials.
"I had an important meeting with President Macron. I am expecting President Macron in Belgrade at the end of August," began Vučić.
He emphasized how important it is that he spoke with many European leaders and how important it is for Serbia.
"We had talks with everyone and I think they were good and important. The idea was that those of us who are not from the EU have the opportunity to come and say what we think, although it was not easy. Ukraine has to win and that's it. That's nice, but there are other countries besides Ukraine. We didn't manage to talk. I had a long conversation with Zelensky about all our bilateral issues," added Vučić.
President of Serbia commented on the atmosphere at the summit, as well as the speeches against Viktor Orbán.
"There was a fierce speech against Orbán, who did not have the opportunity to respond at that moment. I wrote everything down. All the time it was that Ukraine must win. In the first part, one could not hear the opinion of how and in what way to reach a dialogue I said at the panel that I would like a more serious approach to solving the problem, that this is the meaning of democracy. I spoke with at least 50 percent of the European leaders today and they know what has been going on on the battlefield, but the train started and everyone took cover until it passed and what should we do. We've been to many places, it's never been like this," he added.
"For two and a half years, I have been listening to how we are going to wage wars," he said.
"I was elected to protect the interests of my people and my country".
He also commented on the pressure to impose sanctions on Russia and emphasized that he has seen "what is in store for us" and that he is still expecting it.
The president also said that it is good that Ursula von der Leyen was re-elected president of the European Commission.
"I talked more with Kaja Kallas than with Borrell," he said and added that he talked about Kosovo and Metohija with Emmanuel Macron.
"At the NATO summit, they saw who is the biggest hawk and only those who are the biggest hawks could speak, to set the tone for the whole gathering. It was useful and I told Macron that too. We used it through a huge number of meetings with everyone. I also met the new Prime Minister of Latvia, spoke with her briefly. It's good for Serbia because you can talk to everyone, to protect your country."
"Now we are slowly preparing for the visit of Scholz," he added.
