Vučić: "The next six months are crucial for us. It is important that Serbia remains peaceful and stable" PHOTO
President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, attended today the ceremony on the occasion of Hungary taking over the presidency of the Council of the EU.
President of Serbia pointed out that the next six months are crucial for us.
"I am the president of a country you have to count on when you talk about the Western Balkans. I will say something that no one has noticed until now. Do you know which two European countries have the most neighbors? Few people know. Germany and Serbia have the largest number of neighbors. Germany 9, Serbia 8, and only then the Central European countries. I said that because those two countries are in the center of their regions. When they are unstable, then there are the biggest challenges for stability, and that is why it is important for Serbia to maintain its peace and stability", Vucic said.
He congratulated the Hungarians for not being afraid to use the word that many avoid today - peace.
"I congratulate Viktor Orbán for his courage, I also congratulate your government. I tried to speak about it many times, but I realized that if I played the devil's advocate, I would end up being the devil. We will never reach peace in this way. We will give everything of ourselves to fulfill the criteria", Vucic said, adding:
"We are part of Europe, and we have nowhere else to go. I just ask everyone else who is not always happy with the attitudes of Serbia, to understand that we are a sovereign and independent country, and that we have our own opinion. I want to thank my Hungarian friends for their support, you have a sincere friend in Serbia! Serbia may not be big and important for the EU, but it's always good to have a friend, even when it's not big and important," he said.
Serbia will be able to return respect to Europe and other member countries.
"Congratulations on the presidency. I'm afraid that it will be more difficult for you than you expected, and I hope that it will be much easier for us and others. Long live the friendship of Serbia and Hungary, long live the partnership with our European friends," concluded Vučić.
Tonight, a reception was held in Belgrade to mark the beginning of Hungary's presidency of the Council of the European Union, which was attended by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Emanuele Giaufret, and the Hungarian Ambassador to Belgrade, Jozsef Magyar.
