The body of Ensign First Class M.T. was found this morning in the Danube-Tisa-Danube canal, the Serbian Ministry of Defense announced.

"Divers of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, together with members of the diving unit of the Gendarmerie and members of the Emergency Situations Sector of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, found this morning the lifeless body of Ensign M.T. who disappeared in the Danube-Tisa-Danube canal during the regular training activities of landing from a helicopter on the water surface yesterday", reads the statement of the Ministry.

As it is further stated, senior sergeant B.V., who was seriously injured yesterday, was transported to the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade, where he underwent surgery last night. After the operation, he is in intensive care.

The Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Milan Mojsilović, formed a commission to investigate the event, which has the task of reviewing all the circumstances and determining the cause of its occurrence.

Expert commissions to investigate the event were formed by the commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces and the commander of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade.

Representatives of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Pancevo and authorized officers of the military police came to the scene.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Miloš Vučević and Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Milan Mojsilović, sent telegrams of condolence to the family of the fallen member of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade.

Minister of Defense then announced on his profile on the social network Instagram, where he wrote that at this moment it is difficult to find words of comfort when saying goodbye to dear people.

"The most difficult thing is to find the way to say goodbye to a hero," said Vučević.

Ensign M.T. was born in 1980 in Cetinje. He has been in professional service in the Serbian Army since 2000. He has been decorated and rewarded several times for his service results. He was married and the father of three children.
