Police on their feet - a major arrest in Nis VIDEO

In the continuation of the anti-corruption campaign, members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Anti-Corruption Department of the Criminal Police Administration, on the order of the Special Anti-Corruption Department of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Niš, arrested Nenad Stanković (46), a former city councilor of the City of Niš, on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of negligent work in the service.

It is suspected that N.S., during his tenure as a city councilor, as a member of the Emergency Situations Staff of the City of Niš, acted negligently by voting with the other 14 members of the Staff, who were arrested on February 24, in favor of the conclusions of the Staff, which proposed that the mayor make a decision on the declaration of a state of emergency in the territories of the city's municipalities and the orders by which the particularly important subjects of the "Vodomonteri" business from Lalinac and PD "Sim puk construction" d. o. o. Malošište, were engaged for the execution of various construction works in the area of ​​the City of Niš, applying the provisions of the Law on Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Management and other regulations under this Law, and not applying the Law on Public Procurement, although in the mentioned situations it was not about emergency situations, but about investment maintenance and expansion of the water and sewage network.

On the basis of the offers they gave, which are significantly higher than the market value given in the estimates and preliminary calculations previously prepared by JKP "Naissus" Niš, the engaged entities invoiced the City of Niš according to temporary and final situations at such increased prices, in the amount of 843,336,450 dinars, for which the City was damaged.

The suspect was detained for up to 48 hours and will be brought to the competent prosecutor's office.

Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Criminal Police Department, and the Department for the Fight against Corruption will continue their work to combat corruption on the territory of the Republic of Serbia.
